What is forestry mulching?

Forestry mulching uses a tracked machine (usually a compact track loader or a dedicated mulcher) fitted with a rotating drum of teeth. It grinds standing brush, saplings and trees up to several inches across directly into mulch, which is left on the ground. One machine does the cutting, grinding and cleanup in a single pass.

In East Texas, mulching is especially popular for knocking back yaupon, privet, Chinese tallow, sweetgum sprouts and greenbrier, the understory that takes over pine land and pastures.

Why property owners choose it

If you are building, mulching alone usually is not enough. Stumps and roots stay in the ground and the mulch layer has to be scraped off before a foundation, driveway or septic system goes in. For a building pad, ask about full lot clearing instead, or a combination: mulch most of the property and fully clear just the build site.
